29 Jul 2021
29 July was a prestigious occasion to remember for the recipients of Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Awards and bizSAFE Awards this year. For the first time, both events were held together, on a new virtual platform, to recognise a total of 256 award recipients for their leadership, commitment and outstanding achievements in WSH, and their efforts in helping more than 130,000 workers go home safe and healthy every day.
Jointly organised by the WSH Council and the Ministry of Manpower, the WSH Awards and bizSAFE Awards 2021 opened with the livestreaming of speeches by Dr Tan See Leng, Minister for Manpower, and Mr John Ng, Chairman of Workplace Safety and Health Council.
In the welcome address of Mr John Ng, he highlighted that “more can be achieved together for their business when companies in the same value chain are aligned in strong WSH ownership”. A win-win example of two award recipients is Lendlease and Wee Chwee Huat Scaffolding and Construction which “have demonstrated an amazing WSH partnership as service buyer and contractor respectively”.
In the opening remarks of Dr Tan See Leng, he shared three examples of Award winners with outstanding WSH practices, who have done well in risk management. They are namely, Petrochemical Corporation of Singapore – recipient of WSH Performance (Excellence) Award, Mr Chinnaiah Prabhu from RCY Pte Ltd. – recipient of bizSAFE Champion Award, and JCDecaux Singapore Pte Ltd – recipient of bizSAFE Enterprise Exemplary Award.
Close to 800 attendees turned up at this event. They had fun navigating around the virtual platform, from the auditorium where they watched the live messages, to the Award Recipients’ hall of fame where they checked out quotes, videos and writeups of 23 profiled award recipients in various categories. Attendees also grabbed a shot of themselves at the virtual Photobooth and posted their congratulatory notes on the Message Board.
